An Engineering Improvement Specialist position currently exists with General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada, based in Calgary, AB. Position Overview

The Engineering Improvement Specialist will play a key part in refining how engineering projects are executed. Responsibilities include:

  • Analyzing Performance: Gathering and studying engineering data, metrics, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify bottlenecks and track the impact of improvements.
  • Automating Data Tasks: Developing code or scripts to help automate the collection, movement, and synthesis of data for review and analysis.
  • Visualizing Information: Utilizing tools like Microsoft PowerBI to create clear charts and reports that help engineering teams understand complex data.
  • Collaborating for Solutions: Working directly with engineering teams to grasp their challenges (‘friction points’) and proposing workable solutions, which might involve process adjustments or automation.
  • Supporting Change: Assisting in the implementation of improvements by communicating changes effectively, gaining support from stakeholders, and developing training materials for new tools or processes.

Candidate Profile

Individuals likely to succeed in this role generally bring the following:

  • Approximately 2+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • A background in Systems Engineering or Software Development.
  • A disciplined approach to engineering tasks, with familiarity with agile or iterative development methods being helpful.
  • Strong communication abilities, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Keen attention to detail and a natural curiosity for root cause analysis.
  • An enthusiastic attitude, a willingness to learn, and a sense of ownership over their work.
  • The capability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
